Whitemarsh Township Authority

Wastewater treatment is provided from a main sewer facility located on Joshua Road, and includes sanitary sewer mains, pump stations and services. The Authority operates twenty-two wastewater pumping stations where gravity flow is not possible.

The Authority provides wastewater treatment services to its customers without the ability to levy taxes; its operations are sustained entirely through customer-generated revenue. As of December 31, 2024, the Authority served a total of 6,096 customers, comprising 5,793 single-family and multi-family residential accounts, along with 303 commercial accounts.

The Authority is governed by a five-member Board of Directors, each serving a five-year term. The terms are staggered so that one member's term expires each year, ensuring continuity in leadership. Authority meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm.

A typical sanitary sewer system is a network of underground pipes designed to carry wastewater - from toilets, sinks, showers, and other household or industrial sources - to a treatment facility.

Unlike combined sewer systems, it excludes stormwater runoff, which is handled by separate storm drains.

A property owner's sewer pipe is called a sewer lateral and connects to a larger authority-maintained pipe called a sewer main.

Sewer laterals are the responsibility of the property owner and must be maintained by the property owner for the entire distance from the house to the sewer main.
